The Estuary League of Friends has launched its first Memory Cafe aimed at dementia and memory loss sufferers and their carers.
Around 20 people attended the two-hour session organised at the Nelson Close Community Room in Topsham.
The session aimed to be a relaxing opportunity for people to meet, share experiences and gather information to help them and their families.

Two local charities have joined forces to offer gardening and odd-job help to older people in Exeter and East Devon.
It is part of an initiative by the Estuary League of Friends which operates in Topsham, Countess Wear, Clyst St Mary, Clyst St George, Ebford and Exton.
The group already provides a range of support services such as day centres, luncheon clubs and general assistance to older residents.
The new gardening service includes St Loye’s Enterprises, part of a foundation which trains and supports the unemployed and disadvantaged.
Work ranges from clearing of gardens and paths to mowing lawns, weeding and pruning.
“Some clients are in family houses with large gardens while others are in small flats with communal open spaces,” said the league’s chief executive Rachel Gilpin.

More than 100 people made a splash by taking part in the annual charity Topsham to Turf swim.

The brave swimmers, who were mostly clad in wetsuits, took the plunge in the River Exe from the Passage Inn in Topsham and emerged at the Turf Locks — one and a half miles away.

The fundraising swim has raised £3320 fo far for the Estuary League of Friends. Organiser Mike Stevens is already talking about next years and we hope to have a date by end of November.

A weekly bingo evening will be starting at the Malthouse, the Globe every Wednesday from 5.30-7pm, there will be cash prizes.

We have a desperate need for volunteers drivers - in fact all the leagues across Exeter are struggling for drivers - we pay 40p per mile mileage. One journey a week is all we ask.

Our two charity shops are doing very well - riding out the recession BUT we are short of helpers to not only man the shop floors but behind the scenes - e.g. washing the bric-a-brac, sorting and pricing etc.

If anyone can help out please contact Charity Manger Rachel Gilpin on 01392 879275.
